Mary Anne ALTMAN
Mary Anne Altman, NYPL retiree, died April 14, 2014, at St. Joseph Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, at the age of 83. Mary Anne grew up in Kansas City and attended school there until coming to New York where she earned a masters degree in library service at Columbia University. She began working at The New York Public Library in September of 1960 and worked on the Staten Island Bookmobile and in many branches, including West Farms, Morrisania, Hamilton Fish, Great Kills, and Chatham Square, from which she retired in October of 1992. For a time, she was also secretary of Local 1930. Upon her retirement, she joined the newly formed Retirees Association and became its secretary.
Angeline Moscatt said Mary Anne was a great ballet enthusiast and loved traveling with colleagues, often visiting a favorite vacation spot in Connecticut, and frequently returning to her roots and family.
In 1994, she returned to Missouri to live and bought a piece of property there. She still continued to travel and visit friends and colleagues in New York. Angeline reported that she had visited in December 2013.
