Gail was a senior image librarian at the Mid-Manhattan Picture Collection. She retired from NYPL on April 7, 2005. She received a master's degree in art education from the College of New Rochelle and in library science from Columbia University. She was also employed at the Rare Book School and the J. Pierpont Morgan Library. She was a member of the Portland Bead Society and worked as an artist, creating many pieces of jewelry. Her husband, John Baymiller, died in 2014.
