Timothy Field BEARD
Timothy Field Beard died on February 13, 2015 in Southbury, CT, at the age of 84.
Tim was the Assistant Chief of the Local History and Genealogy Division at the time of his retirement. After a 21-year career at NYPL, he went on to hold the position of Director of the Minor Memorial Library in Roxbury, CT.
Tim received a BA in History from Williams College and a Master's of Library Science degree from Columbia University. He was the author of How to Find Your Family Roots. This major work, published by McGraw Hill in 1977, assisted many researchers at a time when genealogy was becoming a popular pursuit. He had a lifetime interest in family history and was a member of many genealogical organizations. Among Tim's professional honors were his election as a Fellow of both the American Society of Genealogists and the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society. He also served as President of the Connecticut Society of Genealogists.
