Jeanne FELKER
In Memory of Jeanne Felker
Hired at NYPL 2/1/65 Retired 9/7/1988 Date of Death 9/18/2011
A few thoughts about Jean Felker. Jean and I worked together from 1981 in the Literature and Language department of the Mid-Manhattan library to her retirement. Jean was a very hard-working person and cared very much for her work. She was an excellent reference librarian, very thorough and very caring. She was also an excellent teacher. During my first year working for NYPL, the staff each taught me about the collection, etc. Jean taught me a lot about the collection, ordering, and about the structure of NYPL. I remember once when, years ago, I had daily asthma attacks and I was sitting at the reference desk when I suddenly had an attack. I needed to leave the desk, so I called the workroom and asked Jean if she could come out for a few minutes--and I told her why. She came practically running out with a very concerned look on her face. Jean was that type of person--very caring and with a big heart. I was so sorry to hear of her passing. Thank you. Stephen Kiss -.Mid-Manhattan Library
My recollection of Jean Felker is that she was a lovely person and pleasant to work with. In addition to her work at NYPL, she was very active in the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society.
