Brian G. MARTIN
Brian G. Martin died on July 13, 2014, at the age of 61.
A native of Buffalo, Brian earned a Bachelor's degree in education from Plattsburgh State College in 1977 and a Master's degree in Library Science from SUNY Albany in 1979.
Brian began his NYPL career in 1979. He became a senior librarian and served in a variety of positions, including the Head of the Center for Reading and Writing at the Mott Haven Branch in the Bronx. In 1990, he returned to Buffalo to work for the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library. Brian served as the librarian for the Wyoming Correctional Facility in Attica, NY, from 1999 until his retirement in 2012.
Brian held several leadership positions in Local 356, Public Employees Federation. He was an active member of the New York Library Association and served on its Ethnic Services Round Table. He published numerous articles on literacy and prison library services. In addition, he was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hiking and kayaking. At the time of his death, Brian resided in East Aurora, NY. He is survived by his wife and daughter.
