Jayne A. PIERCE died on July 10, 2017, at the age of 56. She was a resident of Woodbridge, NJ, at the time of her death.
Jayne was born in Bronxville, NY. She began at NYPL as an intern in the Nathan Straus Young Adult Library at the Donnell Library Center. During her career, she worked at various branches, including Hamilton Fish Park where she served as the branch manager. Jayne remained an enthusiastic children's and community librarian throughout her career. In 2001, she left NYPL for a position at the NYC Department of Education.

Jayne was a published poet who frequently appeared at local Manhattan venues. She relocated to Woodbridge in 2007. Jayne was a member of the NYPL Retirees Association. She is survived by her daughter, Ena, her mother, sisters, and extended family.

Harriet Gottfried: I remember Jayne vividly. She was a person who left an impression. In the years that I knew her, she was fully aware of the nature of her illness, but determined to get the most out of life that she could. She was devoted to her daughter for as long as she could be,. I ran a book discussion with her once and I recall how much fun the evening was. She will be missed by those who worked with her.
