Margaret HETLEY
Margaret Hetley died on March 28, 2020, just short of her 77th birthday. Her death was the result of complications from a fall. Margaret started her career at NYPL in 1965 at Muhlenberg in Manhattan. She worked at several other branches in Manhattan and the Bronx in her forty-three-year career. She was an Adult Librarian and had, for a few months, a temporary appointment as Adult Specialist in the Bronx Borough Office. She rose to the rank of Senior Principal—Regional—Librarian at Hunt’s Point, from which she retired in 2008. In her free time, Margaret loved to travel, read, eat good food, go to the theater, and argue. She will be missed.
Margaret is survived by her brother James, her sister-in-law Merle, and her two nephews, Michael and Richard. Expressions of condolence may be sent to Jim at 42 Maple Street, Bangor, Maine 04401. Because of the current lockdown situation, there will be no funeral. Margaret will be cremated and her ashes scattered by her brother in some beautiful spot in Maine. She would have approved. Donations in Margaret’s name may be made, at Jim’s suggestion, to “any local charity that puts a high percentage of their donations to relief of the current crisis. Food banks, shelters, Meals on Wheels, that sort of emergency aid."
