Janice M. MOORE-SMITH died on July 13, 2017, at the age of 69. She was a resident of Yonkers, NY, at the time of her death.
Janice Moore-Smith was born in the Bronx and attended local schools. She received her undergraduate degree in African American studies from Indiana University in Bloomington. She attended Duke University and subsequently completed a master's degree at North Carolina Central University.
After working in North Carolina as a vocation and education counselor, Janice relocated to New York in 1986. She joined NYPL as a career specialist at the Education Information Center at the Countee Cullen Regional branch. She subsequently ran the Career and Education Information Service at the Fordham Library Center and the Bronx Library Center. In 2009, Janice was named a Library Lion. She retired from NYPL on August 8, 2011.
Janice enjoyed reading and crocheting in retirement. She was an active member of St. Charles Boromeo Church, the Delta Sigma Theta Society, and the Ladies of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre. Janice is survived by her husband of eighteen years, Ernest Smith, and an extended family.
