Dorothy EOSEFOW
Dorothy R. Eosefow died on June 3, 2020. She was eighty-four years of age and a resident of Maspeth, NY, at the time of her death.
Dorothy received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Hunter College in June 1957. Her career at NYPL featured a leadership role in setting up the Mid-Manhattan Library in 1970. She then served as a supervising librarian in the History and Social Sciences department there. Dorothy later became the senior principal librarian at the Fordham Library Center in the Bronx. She remained in that position until 1979 when she moved to the Baychester Branch. She retired on December 14, 1984.
Dorothy was a strong and indomitable person who was engaged with and encouraging of staff at all levels. Diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in the early 1970s, Dorothy was unstoppable and faced every day with determination and grace. Friends and colleagues recall outings such as canoe trips, as well as parties and cookouts at her Maspeth home. Dorothy was a memorable and valuable friend and colleague to many. After her death, she was honored at a small ceremony by her caregiver, Chan, and Chan’s family, including her grandchildren, to whom Dorothy had become a surrogate grandparent. She was buried at Mt. Olivet cemetery in Maspeth, New York.
